Young lyric tenor Beomjin Angelo Kim thrills and enchants the public, the press and the jury at international renowned competitions with his „stunning beautiful italian timbre“, his „excellent technique and perfect diction“, his “breathtaking musicality”, as well as with his „rich palette of vocal colors“ and his „impressing acting, also in emotionally demanding parts“.


Beomjin Angelo Kim first completed his Bachelor’s degree at the Korean National University of Arts, following his Master’s studies, which he finished “summa cum laude”, at the Universität der Künste Berlin with Prof. Enrico Facini, and completing his musical education at the Young Ensemble at Semperoper  Dresden, studying parallel in a postgraduate studies voice with Prof. Hendrikje Wangemann and Art-Song with Olaf Bär at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden, as well as Masterclasses with Deborah Polaski, John Norris, Brigitte Fassbeender, Sonia Prina, Gerd Üker, Andrzej Dobber and Helmut Deutsch.

 

As member of the Young Ensemble at Semperoper, he appeared as ISMAELE in Verdi‘s „Nabucco“, VICTORIN in Korngold‘s „Die Tote Stadt“, MONOSTATOS  in Mozart‘s „Die Zauberflöte“, DON LUIGINO  in Rossini’s „Il Viaggio a Reims“, AUGUST MOSER in Wagner’s „Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg“, JÜNGLING in Schoenberg’s „Moses & Aron, as ISMAELE YOUNG ASIAN BOY, GRANDFATHER, WAITRESS, CHINESE AUNT and CRIKET  in P. Eötvös’s „The Golden Dragon”, as well as  in  New Years Concerts and in <Rossini – Soirées musicales“.


In the 2021/22 season, he made his debuts as ALFREDO in Verdi's "La Traviata",  LORD ARTURO in Donizetti’s „Lucia di Lammermoor“ and STEUERMANN in  Wagner’s „Der Fliegende Holländer" in South-Korea, a.o. at the Daegu Opera House; made his debuts as TAMINO in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" at Semperoper Dresden, and gave a highly acclaimed debut as ERNESTO in Donizetti's "Don Pasquale" at State Theater Karlsruhe Karlsruhe and at State Theater Oldenburg, where he also performed the  ITALIAN SINGER in Richard Strauss' "Der Rosenkavalier", and to which he will return in 2023/24 to embody RINUCCIO in Puccini's "Il Trittico".

And in 2024/24, Beomjin Kim will join the ensemble of a renowned German Opera-House (more t.b.a. soon)

 

Due to Covid, his planed debuts as LORD ARTURO at the Staatsoper Hamburg, and a.o. as TRIQUET in Caikovsky’s „Jewgenji Onegin“ at Semperoper and SÄNGER in R. Strauss‘ „Capriccio“ under the baton of Maestro Christian Thielemann at theThéâtre des Champs Elysées postponed to a later season.


Next to the already mentioned, Mr. Kim appeared in South-Korea and in productions of conservatories as ALFRED in J. Strauss‘ „The Bat“, as FERRANDO in Mozart’s „Cosi fan tutte“, NEMORINO in Donizetti’s „L’Elisir d‘Amore“, PONG in „Turandot“, GONZALVE in Ravel’s „L’Heure Espagnole“ and ITALIAN in J. Ibers „Angelique“, and studied also  DON OTTAVIO in Mozart’s „Don Giovanni“, BEPPE in Leoncavallo’s „I Pagliacci“, FERNANDO in „La Favorita”, Gounods ROMÉO and DUCA in Verdi’s „Rigoletto“.

 

His Concert-repertoire includes Haydn‘s „Die Schöpfung“, Mozart’s „Spatzenmesse“ and his „Requiem“Beethovens IX. Symphonie“ and Verdis „Messa da Requiem“, which he sang a.o. at the Lotte Concert Hall Seoul, the Konzerthaus Berlin, as well as in many churches in Berlin and Dresden.

 

Mr Kim had the pleasure to work with stage directors such as Calixto Bieto, David Bösch, Achim Freyer, David Hermann, Frank Hilbrich, Barbara Horácková Joly, Josef E. Köpplinger, Amelie Niermeyer, Laura Scozzi andValentin Schwarz; 

and with conductors such as Giampaolo Bisanti, Thomas Leo Cadenbach, Johantahn Darlington, Moritz Gnann, Wladimir Jurowski, Gábor Káli, Franceso Lanzillotta, Petr Popelka, Nikolai Szeps-Znaider and Omer Meir Wellber.

 

His competition-successes include (chronological): the 1st PRIZE at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Voice Competition, the 1st PRIZE and the Audience-Award at the Seoul International Singing Competition, the 1st PRIZE at the International Mirjam Helin Singing Competition, the 4thPREIS beim Concurso de Canto Tenor Viñas Barcelona, the 3rd  PRIZE beim Councours International de Chant de Toulouse, the 3rd PRIZE and the Audience-Award at the Linz Competizione dell’Opera; and at the Stella Maris Vocal Competition he received the „Prize for eine a recording by Grammophone“ and the „Prize for an audition at the Wiener  Staatsoper".

And he was a FINALIST of the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition in 2023.Cardiff Singer of the

Furthermore, Mr. Kim was awarded with the „Curt-Taucher-Preis“ by the Foundation of the Semperoper Dresden <Beomjin Kim already has as young singer everything, what a lyric tenor needs for a career>.
